If you haven’t heard, Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, instead of reprising his role as the billionaire playboy philanthropist, the actor will now play supervillain Doctor Victor Von Doom. While the casting didn’t sit too well with some Marvel fans, one thing is for sure: RDJ is about to make big money with his new role.
Robert’s casting for the role in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” movie was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) last weekend. Soon after the revelation, the media began speculating about the paycheck the 59-year-old will receive for his new role. Reportedly, RDJ will net more than USD80 million (~RM370 million) in salary to play Doctor Doom in the superhero flick, set for a 2026 release.

In addition to the hefty paycheck, other perks in the Oscar-winning actor’s contract include private jet travel, dedicated security and a whole trailer camp for when he’s on set. He’s also expected further payouts in “performance escalators”, which will give him a share of box office revenue. RDJ is also apparently why the Russo Brothers – Anthony and Joseph Russo – are helming the production. According to reports, the actor would only sign on for the film if the brothers were the directors.
RDJ’s new salary might not surprise Marvel fans, given that the actor is the highest-paid actor in the MCU. He reportedly earned over USD500 million (approximately RM2 billion) for his many movie appearances as Tony Stark’s Iron Man. With his new paycheck, he’ll solidify his position and become the highest-paid movie actor ever – surpassing Tom Cruise, Will Smith and Bruce Willis. The Russo brothers are also getting paid big money for their directorial roles, pulling in USD80 million to direct both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”.

Marvel and Disney will share more details about the movies soon, including who will star alongside RDJ. For now, what are your thoughts on this?
