Charlie Murphy, the older brother of Eddie Murphy and a popular stand-up comedian in his own right, has passed away. He was 57.
As per his representative, Domenick Nati, Charlie died yesterday (Wednesday, 12th March) in New York City, following a battle with leukaemia.
“Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle, and friend Charlie. Charlie filled our family with love and laughter, and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us,” said the Murphy family in a statement.
Besides his frequent creative collaboration with his famous brother, Charlie was perhaps best known for his work as a writer and performer on Dave Chappelle’s sketch comedy series, “Chappelle’s Show”.
Charlie was active on Twitter until the end. Refinery29 reported the entertainer had been preparing for his upcoming gig next month on 13th May at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. He was also expected to appear with Cedric The Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, D.L. Hughley and George Lopez in “The Comedy Get Down”.
Just the day before he died, the 57-year-old tweeted, “One to Sleep On: Release the past to rest as deeply as possible.”

Charlie’s wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, died from cervical cancer in 2009. Together, they had 2 children and he had another from a previous relationship.
