If you think “Resident Evil” is over, think again.
Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at Constantin Film, told Variety that “Resident Evil” is getting a reboot! While it’s uncertain who will star or direct the project, Moszkowicz mentioned that the studio is aiming to produce 6 new films.
According to IGN, the involvement of English director Paul W.S. Anderson, who wrote all 6 and directed 4 “Resident Evil” films, on the reboot is highly unlikely as he is currently attached to another Capcom video game-inspired film project called “Monster Hunter”.
Based on Capcom’s video game series of the same name, the first “Resident Evil” film was released in 2002, with Milla Jovovich starring as the titular character Alice. The franchise was set to end with “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”, which grossed USD312 million worldwide after its January 2017 release.
To date, the “Resident Evil” movies has earned USD1.2 billion worldwide. This makes it Europe’s most successful independent horror-genre movie franchise in history. It is also the highest-grossing film series to be based on a video game.
