It’s a devastating day as Malaysians mourn the loss of a local journalism icon. Renowned broadcast journalist Karam Singh Walia, best known for his work with TV3, passed away earlier today (Monday, 6th April 2026) at the age of 66.
According to news reports, the media personality passed away at 3.30am at his residence in Klang. His younger brother Jasbant Singh, the group managing editor (GME) of news and current affairs at Media Prima Bhd, confirmed his passing. His cause of death was reportedly health issues, with some outlets citing liver cancer.

Karam Singh Walia is widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s most influential environmental journalists, having received multiple accolades for his work. He began his career as a broadcast journalist with TV3 in 1995, quickly becoming one of the station’s most recognisable figures, thanks to his distinctive delivery style.
Throughout his years on-screen, the journalist made significant contributions to broadcasting, particularly on issues involving pollution, public safety and environmental sustainability. After nearly two decades with TV3, Karam retired in 2014 due to health reasons. Reports say he had been suffering from liver and kidney disease for the past few years.
Media personalities and political figures have reacted to Karam’s death, sharing their condolences and paying tribute to his legacy in broadcast. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil extended his condolences while remembering Karam for his unique journalistic style and captivating presence.
