Most people think that you’d need to work for a few decades before being able to retire. That’s not necessarily true. Sometimes, it can only take a few years for one to realise one needs to throw in the towel and focus on something else. We had a few people, at the peak of their careers, in both the sports and entertainment industries who announced their retirement this year.

Recently, Badminton player Kisona Selvaduray announced her resignation from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to focus on her recovery from an injury. Meanwhile, in the entertainment business, we had MsPuiyi officially quitting being an OnlyFans creator to focus on her career as a DJ. Joining them on the list of retired youths is local entrepreneur, Prawn King.

That’s right – Prawn King Umance Chong (锺宏绅) has officially announced his retirement as a Facebook Live Host after 4 years. In a lengthy post on his Facebook page, the entrepreneur shared that he never actually wanted to let go of doing live streaming, but has no choice after past controversial incidents.

“From losing money to starting live broadcasts, from having nothing to enjoying good business. I was attacked by many due to my arrogance and was framed by my partners due to my self-confidence,” he wrote. In the same post, the online celebrity addressed a travel agency scandal in which he allegedly scammed customers. According to the FB streamer, he was just as shocked as everyone else when news of the scandal broke.

He explained that a Chinese newspaper had misled netizens to believe that the hotel they had booked in Langkawi through his holiday package was meant to be used as a quarantine facility, causing them to cancel their trip. Despite trying his best to resolve the case through his connections, the damage had already been done. So what’s next for the young entrepreneur, now that he’ll no longer be doing the job that catapulted him to fame?

Although he did not specify what his next step will be in terms of his career, Umance revealed that another host will be taking over his live broadcasts, and that his seafood business will continue in his absence. He ended the post by sharing an old music video he did around the time he started his live-streaming career.

After what he’s been through lately, perhaps a change in career may be good for him.
