Hari Raya is just around the corner and we know everyone is worried about how traffic is going to be like on the days they choose to ‘balik kampung’. The thing about going back to your hometown during the holidays is that you can never predict if other people have the same idea as you.

One has to consider various options and come up with some alternative solutions on how to avoid traffic. Maybe PLUS can give a little insight so you can properly plan your journey later.

As reported by Bernama, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) has advised Malaysians who are going back to their home towns this Raya to plan an early trip before 10am. It is expected there will be over 2 million vehicles using the highways everyday during the whole week of Raya.

“As this is the first time after two years of Movement Control Order (MCO) that Malaysians are allowed to return to their home villages to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, we expect about two million vehicles, which is an increase of 25% compared to 1.6 million vehicles a day using our highways currently,” said PLUS CEO Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi.

The highway operator has issued a “Balik Kampung dan Pulang Ke Bandar” travel time advisory which they posted on their Facebook page as well as their Twitter account. The advisory is posted so that motorist will be able to avoid traffic from 29th April to 2nd May.

Zakaria also mentioned that some journeys might take Malaysians up to 10 hours if they do not follow the travel time advisories. It is advised to those who are returning to the Klang Valley after the Hari Raya celebrations from 5th May – 9th May that they should hit the road by 9am or earlier.
