PJ Live Arts Gets Dahl-icious!

A show of hands please, those who are fans of quirky but dark adult tales that are sometimes meant for kids?

To most, Roald Dahl is a familiar and favourite children’s author. A child growing up in the 1980s may fondly remember literary adventures with the “Big Friendly Giant” or sneered at Veruca Salt in “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory”.

But unbeknownst to most of us, Britain’s most celebrated novelist had a far more eclectic career that spanned age groups and genres. Dahl has an impressive repertoire of darker adult tales that graced the pages of Harper’s, The New Yorker and Playboy. Short story anthologies such as “Kiss Kiss” and “Skin” may ring a bell.

In conjunction with Roald Dahl’s birthday on 13th September, PJ Live Arts is organizing an all-ages day celebration! The “DAHL-LICIOUS!” day will feature full day of familiar fables and dark adult tales in forms of storytelling, film screenings, and stage adaptations that will delight young and old fans.

Professional storytellers Judy Shaik and Anne Ooi will bring Dahl’s stories, “The Giraffe, The Pelly, and Me” and “The Magic Fingers” alive through storytelling whereas children’s theatre show “Box of Delights” will present a series of short plays based on Dahl’s collection of poems, “Revolting Rhymes”.

Go on, admit that you’re excited because there’s a kid in you that’s yearning to go for this. Okay, okay, we’ll make it easier for you and we’ll admit it first.

Deets are as follows:

Date: 15th September 2o12 (Satuday)

Venue: Cabaret, PJ Live Arts at Jaya One, Section 13, No.72A, Jalan Universiti, 46200, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Admission: RM10 for each event or RM5 for LIVE cardholders (max 4 pax). FREE for film screening. Film passes may be picked up on 13th September for LIVE cardholders & 14th September for regular patrons (max 4 pax).

See you there?
