Who wouldn’t get excited when their country is mentioned or shown in a popular international TV series or film? Many have eagerly been awaiting Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” especially after it was confirmed that filming took place in Kuala Lumpur. But did you know that back in the day, Malaysia used to be a popular filming location for several blockbusters?

One of those films happens to be the 1994 Hong Kong action film “Double Or Nothing” (千影神偷), starring Eddie Cheung. In a recent Facebook post on the True Malaysia Airlines Fans Group, which has been going viral, a user shared some screenshots of scenes filmed at what was once known as Subang International Airport.

Facebook user Jun Hong shared some screenshots from the action film, expressing that he had never been to Subang International Airport — now known as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport — when he was young, as much of the airport’s original architecture has been demolished. “Double Or Nothing” was mainly set in Hong Kong, but some of the action sequences were filmed at the airport midway through the film.

In the photos, the scenes showed the characters arriving at the airport, and it was clear that they were filmed in Malaysia, as Malaysia Airlines’ check-in counters were visible and the words “Selamat Jalan” were displayed at the entrance. There was also a chase sequence followed by a fight scene at the bridge outside the venue where one of the supporting characters fell onto a Proton Saga’s windshield. Although the airport scene was brief, it captured the attention of many locals, who began reminiscing about the historic building.

Many spoke about their last visit to Subang International Airport during their travels, while others highlighted some of the unique features of the airport, such as the Van Hool shuttle bus that would pick up passengers from the planes and take them to the main terminal. Some were saddened by the fact that they could no longer see much of the original building after it was rebranded as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.

Subang International Airport used to be the main international gateway from 1965 to 1998 before Kuala Lumpur International Airport became its successor. These days, its main services include general aviation, private jets, turboprops, and regional and domestic flights.
