After the 15th General Election on Saturday (19th November), we’re still waiting for the results of who will be the next Prime Minister of Malaysia. Our country is currently experiencing a Hung Parliament as the announcement for the new Government has yet to be made.

It was originally scheduled to be announced yesterday but the King has extended the deadline to today (Tuesday, 22nd November) at 2pm to give time for the political parties to reach an agreement. While there is no confirmation on who will take charge of this country as of yet, a petition has been launched and signed by netizens for who they believe should be the next Prime Minister.

Politician and Pakatan Harapan chairman, Anwar Ibrahim has been a strong competitor during the election with many showing their support for him to become the next Prime Minister. Netizens were not pleased with the current results of the hung parliament as they believe the number of votes should’ve been enough to determine the winner so they decided to do something about it.

To further voice out their support for the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, a petition has been set up on Change.org titled, “Malaysians want DSAI to be their 10th Prime Minister!” At the time of writing, the petition has so far garnered over 250k signatures. Apart from the signatures, many also stated their reasons for wanting the 75-year-old to be elected.

Some commented that they wish for a more economically stable Malaysia which they believe Anwar is capable of delivering. Others simply stated that they believe he’s the most suitable candidate to lead the country to a better future. This petition is actually not the first petition launched in support of the politician. Apparently, there is another one that dates back to 2021, when Ismail Sabri served as Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Anwar Ibrahim expressed his concerns regarding the racism issue that has been trending lately. The Pakatan Harapan chairman tweeted, “I am concerned to see the racist sentiments and rhetoric that continue to be espoused by a few desperate and vested interests, especially at such an important time like this.”

He elaborated that the efforts in establishing a stable and fair government should not end in chaos as every race in Malaysia wishes to live in peace together.
