“Gyeongseong Creature” (경성크리처) promises a groundbreaking blend of historical drama and creature thriller that is set in the tumultuous spring of 1945 in Gyeongseong. The 10-episode series delves into a dark chapter of Korean history and follows two young people battling for survival against a monstrous creation, a symbol of human greed.
The suspenseful narrative unfolds primarily in Ongseong Hospital, a vortex of secrets and lies, where characters confront life-altering decisions. The series is said to not only showcase Korea’s past but also adds thrilling elements with its creature genre. At the center of it is – of course – our leading couple played by Park Seo Joon/ Park Seo Jun (박서준) and Han So Hee (한소희).
Jang Tae-sang
- Master of Gyeonseong’s biggest money house and the number-one source of information.
As the master of the House of Golden Treasure, Gyeongseong’s largest money house, Tae-sang is the epitome of a self-made man. For anyone needing anything in the Bonjeong district — money, things or even people’s lives, they must go through him. He’s a modern man with impeccable looks, self-assurance and practical savvy, a man more true to his money than to his country or justice. Threatened by the Japanese police commissioner Ishikawa to find his beloved Korean mistress, Tae-sang crosses paths with the sleuth Chae-ok and finds an entirely different kind of life awaiting him.
“The story and characters, especially Tae-sang, were so intriguing,” Park reflects. “His ability to adapt while living by his own rules makes him fascinating.” Park’s dedication to the role, as evidenced by his focus on period-appropriate fashion and demeanor.
Yoon Chae-ok
- Famous sleuth who can find anyone, dead or alive.
Chae-ok is a sleuth who floated into Gyeongseong from Manchuria. Ten years have passed since she assumed the mantle of sleuthing with her father. While investigating her missing mother’s whereabouts, Chae-ok encounters Tae-sang, the number one informant at Gyeongseong, and they strike a deal to assist each other in their respective missions. With her swiftness and commendable fighting skills, the feisty sleuth infiltrates Ongseong Hospital in search of clues.
She describes Chae-ok as a character with a tough facade and suppressed emotions, saying, “Her independent spirit and single-minded pursuit of her goal were what drew me most to her.”
