For almost three decades, KRU has stood as one of Malaysia’s most iconic musical acts, a trio whose influence shaped the local entertainment scene and inspired generations of artists. Yet, despite their legendary status, the group isn’t rushing to immortalise their journey on screen just yet.
While many fans have called for a documentary to capture their evolution from young dreamers to industry giants, the brothers behind KRU believe that some stories are best told in their own time. According to Edry Abdul Halim, the group has received numerous offers to produce both documentaries and biopics, but they feel the moment has not yet arrived.

“Regarding our story, it’s better if someone else produces it. If we make it ourselves, it might come across as us praising our own achievements, and that wouldn’t look good. The same goes for a biopic; it’s best left to others to handle,” Edry told OhBulan!.
Representing KRU at the recent StarKRUise Showcase press conference at Royale Chulan Damansara, the singer revealed that although the group appreciates the enthusiasm from fans and producers alike, they are not ready to be the subjects of such a project. Instead, they prefer to focus on creating new memories. This includes their latest venture, the exclusive Star KRUise Showcase, a special event that combines a cruise holiday and a KRU concert.

“If you want an exclusive result, everything must be told, but there are personal matters in our lives that aren’t suitable to be shared publicly. There are things we ourselves are not comfortable revealing,” Edry explained. He added that KRU’s story is still ongoing, which makes it difficult to craft a proper conclusion for any documentary. “Maybe one day, when the time comes, let others do it. Our story isn’t over yet; it doesn’t have an ending. Without one, it’s hard to tell the full story,” he said.
For now, the brothers remain focused on their musical journey, continuing to create, perform, and connect with fans. Proving that even after 30 years, the KRU legacy is far from reaching its final chapter.
