Last year, Lady Gaga blew us all away with her outstanding “The Sound of Music” medley at the 87th Annual Academy Awards aka Oscars 2015. Then, just a couple of weeks ago, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter took our breaths away once again with an awe-inspiring 2016 Grammy Awards tribute performance to the late David Bowie.
We knew that there would be no stopping her for the 88th Annual Academy Awards aka Oscars 2016, which took place early this morning at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Lady Gaga took the stage to perform “Til It Happens To You”, the original song off “The Hunting Ground”, a documentary about a series of sexual assaults on American college campuses. At the time of her performance, “Til It Happens To You” was still in the running for “Best Original Song“. She later lost the golden statuette to Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes’ “Writing’s On The Wall“.
Joining her onstage for her emotional performance of the powerful song was a group of sexual assault survivors with the words “Not Your Fault”, “Survivor”, and “Unbreakable” written on their arms. Towards the end of the song, they surrounded Lady Gaga at the piano before clasping their hands for a dramatic finale. The climatic end received a standing ovation from the attendees of the awards.
It moved us to tears.

It’s no secret that Lady Gaga is also a survivor of sexual assault. She was assaulted at age 19 by a man 20 years her senior but she never confronted him.
Lady Gaga is currently working on her yet-to-be-titled 5th studio album.
