The much-anticipated climax of the awards season, the 98th Academy Awards, finally arrived, and as the night unfolded, it was a showcase of fierce competition and well-deserved victories. Among the night’s nominated movies were Ryan Coogler’s vampire-horror “Sinners” which scored a record-breaking 16 nominations, the frantic sports drama “Marty Supreme” starring Timothée Chalamet, the Leonardo DiCaprio-led “One Battle After Another”, and Chloé Zhao’s tender tragedy “Hamnet”.
This year, Paul Thomas Anderson’s political dark comedy “One Battle After Another” dominated the night, securing the most wins with a total of six, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor. Meanwhile, “KPop Demon Hunters” made history by taking home the awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. ICYMI, the film’s smash hit “Golden” became the first K-pop song to win an Oscar.
“Sinners” took home four wins, landing the Best Original Screenplay awards as well as Best Cinematography and Best Actor. Michael B. Jordan took home Best Actor for his double role in the film, and the entire room is on its feet. Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw made even more Oscars history as the first women to win in that category.
