Dr. Nur Amalina Che Bakri has always generously shared her medical knowledge in efforts to correct common misconceptions. Recently, she held another Q&A session with her followers on Instagram.

During the session, one of Amalina’s followers asked whether Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) service is provided for baby girls in the UK. She responded by saying that female circumcision is illegal in the country.

However, it appears that the Malaysian physician was left fuming after she came across tons of online comments sexualising her infant daughter. Refusing to stay mum, she has since taken to her Twitter account to issue a stern warning to online trolls.

She tweeted, “I was torn about whether to write this, but I decided to speak out because some Malay Muslim men (and also women) had made obscene remarks about my daughter who is just 9 weeks old. I regularly share medical knowledge with my followers on Instagram Q&A. One of the questions (about FGM) from my followers went viral and was picked up by some tabloids.”

She went on to clarify, “I have never disputed Islamic law. In fact, I made a statement – if you are in Malaysia, follow the ‘fatwa’ and the laws in the country. My statement was then picked up by tabloid media outlets in Malaysia with headlines like this.” The articles were then posted on Facebook, and was flooded with “disgusting, insulting and obscene” comments from netizens.

Saya tidak terkesan sekiranya kata-kata tersebut ditujukan kpd saya, tapi mereka sudah melampaui batas apabila membuat kenyataan berbaur lucah terhadap anak saya yg tidak ada dosa sekalipun. Please leave my daughter alone. pic.twitter.com/S5ztP9HOVb

“I am not affected by words thrown at me, but they had crossed the line when they made sexual comments about my innocent daughter. Please leave my daughter alone,” Amalina said in her post. She also posted screenshots of some of the comments made by the trolls.

“I am in the process of seeking legal recourse. I also want to reprimand the writers who like to come up with clickbait headlines or take trivial stories from my IG to sensationalise and encourage Muslim Malays to fight and slander each other. Where are your ethics? Even the comments section has no moderation. I hope this matter gets the attention of the authorities,” she tweeted.

temeh drp IG saya utk disensasikan dan menggalakkan org Melayu Islam bergaduh, memfitnah sesama sendiri. Dimana etika anda? Malah ruang komen pun tidak ada moderasi. Saya harap perkara ini mendapat perhatian pihak berwajib. Assalamualaikum dan terima kasih. pic.twitter.com/kFgFFSZKWJ
