Onitsuka Tiger Tames Dragons With Lunar New Year Limited Edition Collection!

Roar like a tiger in the Year of the Dragon!  Onitsuka Tiger has unveiled a limited edition collection for Chinese New Year that combines fashion with sports, and heritage with innovation. A traditional Chinese theme infuses Onitsuka Tiger’s 2024 Lunar New Year Limited Edition lineup with a deep cultural heritage.

In Chinese culture, “dragon” represents divine power and oriental spirit, while “tiger” represents courage and strength. Taking the brand name as a starting point, Onitsuka Tiger skillfully combines the symbolism of these two elements and takes ” Tiger’s Roar and Dragon’s Roar ” as the inspiration for its design. The meaning is that it’s like a tiger roaring and a dragon singing, metaphorically representing related things sensing each other. This Chinese idiom signifies the connection between Chinese culture and Onitsuka Tiger. The elegant use of traditional Chinese characters depicts this theme, showcasing the brand’s deep respect for Chinese traditions.

The Limited Edition collection continues the brand’s most iconic shoes MEXICO 66™, combining the features of the original LIMBERUP training shoe that debuted in 1961 and the design of the LIMBER shoe which debuted in 1966. It was one of the first models that featured the iconic Onitsuka Tiger Stripes. With modern design elements, the MEXICO 66 model still retains the feel of the 1960s. The model remains an Onitsuka Tiger icon from when it first debuted.

The DENTIGRE™ LS model is a modern take on the brand’s iconic heritage tennis shoes. The FLYTEFOAM™ PROPEL midsole provides better cushioning and resilience. Shades of gray add texture and dimension to this already powerful fashion statement. The red line, a symbol of peace and good fortune in Chinese culture, is also incorporated into the design, presenting the dragon’s galloping posture with a dynamic sense of lines, building a link between Chinese culture and the brand’s spirit.

Linear elements are incorporated into clothing, accessories, and footwear to dynamically represent the dragon’s form in motion, symbolizing the connection between Chinese culture and Onitsuka Tiger. And embroidered sweat top features multiple splices to reflect the line of the dragon, while the loose cuffs and dropped shoulders add a relaxed casual style.

The contrasting red and black tones of the cap not only reinforce the New Year’s vibe, but its elastic reflective cord design also provides the wearer with more comfortable adjustment options. In addition, the socks are made of a cotton blend fabric that provides skin-friendliness and breathability, while the back of the socks are embellished with the Chinese character “虎啸龙吟”, which is a clever combination of the brand’s logo and design details.

Onitsuka Tiger’s 2024 Lunar New Year Limited Edition will be available in stores and on the official website starting from February 2024.
