Fun fairs are meant to be a place for people to enjoy themselves. Most picture them as brightly lit areas with music and laughter and dozens of rides to try. Unfortunately, a certain funfair in Cheras supposedly experienced the opposite of that.

On 11th November, police received a report that two local men fell from a Ferris wheel at the fair. One was badly injured while the other passed away from the fall.

According to Kajang police deputy chief Supt Mohd Sabri Abdullah, a report was received on the incident from a funfair employee at 12.05am on Thursday (11th November). It is believed the accident happened before midnight at the funfair near Aeon Jusco Cheras Selatan.

One of the victims, a 39-year-old man was confirmed dead at the scene when ambulance workers from Kajang Hospital arrived. The other victim who is also in his 30s was thankfully, still alive albeit seriously injured. He was sent to the hospital for treatment.

Police are still investigating the cause of the incident. Preliminary investigations have shown that no criminal element was involved. However, Mohd Sabri explained they are looking into the case to ascertain if there was negligence on the funfair owner’s part, or the victims themselves.

The case has been classified as uncertain death. The deceased victim’s body was transferred to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for an autopsy.

Police urged those with information regarding the incident to contact investigating officer Mohd Emran Mohd Noor at 013-7638512 or visit the nearest police station.
