Old School Dating Rules We Need To Revive, ASAP!

Dating today is effed up! PERIOD!

The art of going out with a romantic interest has evolved significantly from the time of our grandparents, thanks (but no thanks) to the internet and a plethora of dating applications. Think about it. Both men and women don’t put in much effort these days. It’s like they’re dating for the sake of having a date and nothing more. Don’t get us wrong – we’re not slamming modern dating – but we really admire how dating was conducted in the past.

Giphy

In pre-internet days, instead of relying on Google and dating app profiles, people communicated more directly, had more intimate talks, and got to know the other person. Since dating and falling in love are among the most personal experiences of our lives, these processes should also be private. While some dating customs should clearly be left in the past, others are ones we want to see endure or make a comeback.

So here are 6 traditional dating conventions we feel should be revived:

Call Instead Of Text

Giphy

This one annoys us sometimes. You have a freaking phone and with one click you can straight up ring the person up. But still, you choose to go with a text message instead. It’s okay to text, but for more crucial things, nothing makes your heart race more than hearing your partner call. Instead of just sending a random text asking, “Hey, do you wanna go out?” it would be more memorable this way.

In the past, a man would wait to use his landline, memorize the landline number of his lady, call her, and just pray that her father wouldn’t answer the phone. That’s a lot of work. However, we’re not requesting that you obtain a landline and sit by the phone while you wait for your boyfriend to call. Dear fellas, how about giving her a quick call if you want to ask her out? Perhaps even the sound of your voice will brighten her day.

Being On Time

Isn’t it annoying when you set a time and your partner makes you wait for like half an hour or more?

Giphy

There are numerous meanings behind being on time for a date. One possibility is that you are anticipating this date. Being on time might also indicate that you are sincere about your feelings for that individual, as well as that you are eager to see them, because you value the time you have with them and don’t want to waste it. This goes for women too. If you know your date is in two hours’ time, then get ready early. Don’t spends hours on your makeup and make your man wait. Just remember, on-time arrival for a date is sexy!

Get Flowers Or Chocolates

Giphy

This is not a requirement. However, bringing some flowers if you’ve been planning this date for a while won’t hurt. Every woman is attracted to romantic men, thus giving a woman flowers on a date would undoubtedly make her heart skip a beat. Then what about men, you may ask. Well, flowers aren’t just for the pretty ladies – at times, men too deserve bouquets. We get it that some people see this as something unmanly, but hey, who cares? If you want to get your man a rose, get him a rose! If flowers ain’t your thing, you can always go for chocolates, which we think he’ll surely love. There is no harm in making someone’s day a little bit more enjoyable.

Chivalric Hand Gestures

Giphy

Your body language and what you do on a date says lots about you as a person. As a man, it’s important to show your lady simple hand gestures, like offering your hand as she walks down the stairs, giving your jacket when she feels cold and opening the car or restaurant doors for her. For you ladies, just appreciate your man when he does these kind of things. A simple thank you or even a demure smile, will definitely make him fall head over heels for you.

Offering Rides

This one touches more on men.

Giphy

Even if your date is able to drive herself, picking her up is such a considerate gesture. No woman would want to miss out on the pleasant and romantic experience of taking a car trip with her significant other on the way to a date. Don’t forget to drop her off at home as well. Once she is securely inside her house, phone her. The cherry on top is that extra move right there. By the time the evening is over, you will have her swooning.

Handwritten Notes Or Letters

This one’s our favourite.

Giphy

With today’s smartphones and social media, it’s extremely rare for someone to write letters or notes. But there’s just something about handwritten letters that you can’t get from electronic texts, even if you use emoji. Now, you might be thinking how or what to write. Simple! Just write down what comes from your heart when you think of your partner. It penning lengthy letters isn’t your thing, you can always send cute but meaningful notes.
