The grandmaster of stand-up comedy, Harith Iskander, will be hosting Malaysia’s first ever last night talk show, titled “Obviously Harith Iskander” (OHI). The idea of producing the show was inspired by popular late night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, and Jimmy Kimmel.
The 13-episode television show will air every Saturday at 9:30pm on Astro Awani. The programme will make its debut on 28th May and it will feature Air Asia’s Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and local songstress, Dasha Logan.
Viewers can expect to see Iskander’s signature monologues, comedy sketches, celebrity interviews, and musical performances. Besides that, OHI promises a line-up of interesting personalities like Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Shila Amzah, Jaclyn Victor, Dato’ Seri Nazir Razak, and Adibah Noor while local jazz musician, Michael Veerapan, is the show’s musical director and band leader.
“I cannot describe how thrilled and honoured I am to be joining forces with Awani. All the elements are in place; the audience is primed and landscape for infotainment news is established. OHI will set a new precedent for Malaysian TV. We will show what we are capable of, if not equal to, possibly better than what the rest of the world has to offer. Now, I must excuse myself to go pick up a few good looking suits and probably get a nice haircut,” said the comedian.
Iskander was named “Asia’s Best Stand-Up Comedian” by “Top 10 Of Asia Award 2014” and he was also the first Malaysian stand-up comedian to have performed to a crowd of 9,000 spectators in Stadium Putra for “Laugh Malaysia”.
