Ah, weekends, especially Sundays, those glorious days are the perfect settings for a good day out to have brunch and to catch up with friends or just life in general. But, are you quite done with the standard breakfast sets and hipster cafes yet? Thinking of trying something new for a change? We’ve picked out some specialty places that you might want to check out, if you haven’t already.

From crepes to bagels, and right down to delicious pies, here are some awesome and interesting brunch places that you need to try at least once.

Brunch Places Malaysia

After all, there are enough weekends to go around, right? 😉

Enjoy:

A Pie Thing, Damansara Utama

Get mad about pies, pies, and more pies at A Pie Thing!

The new kid on the block is located at a small and cozy cafe (where popular mamak night haunt Dharoos used to be) and for its name, it’s not hard to guess what they serve. Yes, freshly baked pies that will leave you wanting more! Not only do they serve up pies, some of them are well taught of judging from its uniqueness such as their savoury Chili Cheese, Pulled Lamb, and beef pies, served with gravy, mashed potatoes, or mushy peas and gravy.

There’s also a range of sweet, dessert-like pies such as the Nutella (no prizes for guessing what’s in it), The Elvis which pays tribute to the King of Rock and Roll’s favourite snack of peanut butter, and the Smores which comes dotted with mini marshmallows.

Needless to say, this place is a hit with both pie lovers as well as A Pie Thing’s newer fans 😉

A Pie Thing is located at 128G, Jalan SS21/35, Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Opening hours are 4pm – 11pm on Tuesdays till Thursdays, 4pm – midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4pm till 11pm on Sundays.

Strangers at Forty 7, Section 17

You’d think that the quieter side of Section 17 would never play host to some really good brunch places!

Recently, a new cafe called Strangers at Forty 7 aka Strangers at 47 popped up, specialising in one of the most unlikely brunch noms – crepes. In fact, they offer a selection of crepes that come in both savoury and sweet variants. They even have really cute names! For example, we tried A Hen’s Crush, which featured a crepe that was gloriously stuffed with pan-seared chicken meat with a side of golden hash brown and salad. They also have their personal take on big breakfasts as theirs came with fluffy-soft wholemeal crepes, caramelised inions mixed with baked beans, a sunny side up egg, chicken chorizo, smoked chicken ham, sautéed portobello, and more.

And if you feel like your brunch won’t be complete without a side order of dessert, then we highly recommend their Adam’s Sin. It’s a sweet crepe dish with offerings of juicy cinnamon apple bits, wholemeal crumble, topped off with blueberries and salted caramel.

Oh, and vanilla ice cream too! We know, right? Yum!

Strangers at Forty 7 is located at 47, Jalan 17/45, Section 17, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Opening hours are 3pm – 10pm on weekdays and 11am – 10pm on weekends. Closed on Tuesdays.

Brooklyn B Bagel Bakery and Cafe, Subang

If you’re looking for a place that makes New York-style bagels from scratch, look no further than Brooklyn B Bagel Bakery and Cafe!

Run by a Malaysian team coached by its owner who spent 16 years making bagels in New York City (and therefore super legit), Brooklyn B’s selection of bagels are freshly baked. Their bagels, ranging from plain to cheese, to onion, sesame, and garlic (just to name a few) are served all day long starting at 10am, and are quite the star attractions amongst Subang Jaya’s college kids. If you want a great bagel breakfast, Brooklyn B has got it – served with scrambled eggs and a serving of veggies.

They’ve even got other amazing fillings for your bagels such as salmon, chicken mayo, Philly cheese steak, corned beef and of course, cream cheese – because you can hardly go wrong with cream cheese. Also, if you want to just snack, the cafe specialises in their very own bagel chips, thinly sliced and baked till golden-brown, even crunchier than potato chips.

Goes well with coffee 😉

Brooklyn B Bagel Bakery and Cafe is located at 41, Jalan SS15/8A, Subang Jaya.
Open hours are 10am – 10pm daily except Mondays.

La Creperie de Caroline, Bangsar

We can’t go about featuring specialty brunch places without featuring one of the first crepe places in Kuala Lumpur now, can we?

At La Creperie de Caroline, there’s a range of Breton Crêpes (sweet) and Galettes (savoury), some of the best-known specialities from France. The wonderful thing about the eatery is that their selection is extensive, with nearly 20 types of savoury galettes and more than 25 dessert crepes. Their dessert crepes range from basic sugar and honey to some with alcohol (flambeed crepes) and chocolate, nuts, ice cream, and fruits!

One popular choice that patrons shouldn’t miss out a chance at biting into would be the La Breitz Burger, which is as you would guess, a burger that’s not in your regular bun. It doesn’t have a regular burger patty either. The burger comes with a side salad and consists of sauteed minced beef, a sunny side up yolk in the middle, surrounded by a ring stewed tomatoes and sweet onions plus a layer of melted cheese.

You may wash that overly savoury goodness with a sweet crepe of your choice after. So crazy, we like.

La Creperie de Caroline is located at 33 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar, 59100, Kuala Lumpur.
Opening hours are 12noon – 1am on Tuesdays till Sundays. Closed on Mondays.

Paddington House of Pancakes

Weekend brunch sessions and meets should be a flipping good time! Hence, pancakes.

Paddington House of Pancakes isn’t the newest brunch place in town but how can we go without talking about it? If you’re a pancake lover, you’d be glad to know that this is one place where you can find about a gajillion types of different pancakes, ranging from sweet to savoury. There are Pannekoeks, Galettes, American Stacks (served with scrambled eggs, mushrooms, cream cheese, and beef bacon), Poffertjes, Blitzes, and many more, depending on how much space you’ve got in your stomach!

Heck, they’ve even got mind-blowingly delicious lamb Pancake Burgers and pizza pancakes (which are only available one a month). There’s just so, so much to go around so you’re going to have to make a few trips back to Paddington House of Pancakes to try ’em all.

Paddington House of Pancakes is located at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara and Ampang Point in Kuala Lumpur.
Opening hours depending on respective malls’ opening hours.

For more information, visit their website.

The above are just some of our current favourites. We’re sure more will crop up along the way 🙂
