There have been numerous stories surrounding the IOI City Mall, ranging from flooding incidents to a K-pop idol getting mobbed by fans – but recently, IOI City is adorned with good news for all local residents. It’s been reported that the all-new IOI Mall Rio is set to be opened at the 100-acre IOI Rio City in Puchong in 2030. The brand new upcoming building is a new shopping mall that will have one million sq ft of net lettable area and over 300 retail units.

According to The Star, IOI Properties Group Bhd revealed that the IOI Rio City would be a 40.46-hectare (approximately 100-acre) development, which is valued at RM12 billion over 12 years. IOI Rio City will also feature residential, office, and retail components, as well as an existing 10.93-acre urban park.

IOI Mall Rio will be a follow-up on the successful track of the vibrant retail portfolio landmarks, such as IOI City Mall and IOI Mall Puchong. Introducing the “A city within a city” concept, group chief operating officer Teh Chin Guan said the development of Rio City will be similar to the concept in IOI’s development in Singapore, which comes with various facilities and landscaping.

The mall is also said to be connected to key amenities nearby, such as the Taman Perindustrian Puchong LRT station. Arcadis, a US-based architecture and planning firm, will be designing the development with a sustainable lifestyle that will include electric vehicle (EV) chargers, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting.

The entire development will complete 1,600 units of lifestyle condominiums, neighbourhood retail outlets, and even residential houses over the next five years. In addition, the development’s senior general manager, Chung Nyuk Kiong, said the masterplan would also include a water fountain and a pet-friendly public courtyard, designed to bring people together. It is also said that the construction work for the mall will start around mid-2026 and is expected to be fully finished and opened around 2030.
