Over the weekend, the 2025 Miss Hong Kong Pageant (2025香港小姐競選) crowned 26-year-old Stacey Chan (陳詠詩) as the winner. Unfortunately, the decision received mixed reactions, with many netizens arguing that the rhythmic gymnast didn’t deserve the title.
On 31st August 2025 (Sunday), Stacey Chan was crowned the winner of the 2025 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, succeeding last year’s winner Ellyn Ngai. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Angela Stanton (施宇琪) placed second and 27-year-old Jane Yuan (袁文靜) placed third. Contestant No.1 Victoria Lee (李尹嫣) received both awards for Miss Friendship and Most Photogenic, and Contestant No.3 Emily Tsoi (蔡華英) rounded up the Top 5.

Unfortunately, like most beauty pageants, the result received mixed reactions. Many lamented that Stacey’s performance wasn’t outstanding enough for her to be this year’s winner. Some even speculated that she won the title because of her family ties, as her great-grandfather was a well-known philanthropist. Others argued that the pageant favoured her because she previously represented Hong Kong in rhythmic gymnastics.
Sadly, Stacey isn’t the only one criticised for winning because many also argued that Angela and Jane didn’t deserve their runner-up titles. Many lamented that Angela has an “unflattering smile”, which is uncharacteristic of a pageant queen. At the same time, they criticised Jane’s poor command of Cantonese, arguing that she can’t represent Hong Kong if she can’t speak the national language.

Interestingly, many said they were surprised that Victoria was only awarded the Miss Friendship and Most Photogenic titles and failed to make it into the Top 3. Some even urged the pageant to reconsider the results. However, when asked about these comments, Stacy said she tries not to take them to heart, saying, “Everyone has their own favourite candidates, and every contestant is excellent.”
Of course, being upset about the winners isn’t anything new. However, we hope the public can respect the result and give the new Miss HK and the runners-up a chance to prove themselves. What are your thoughts on this?
