Here in Malaysia, there are specific industries that can offer high salaries – and it looks like this young Malaysian wants to secure a lucrative job as soon as they leave university.

Twitter user @/meinmokhtar recently shared a question from an anonymous follower, believed to be a young student. The question asks, “How can fresh graduates earn RM4,000? What course do they normally take in university to ensure a higher pay?”. The question led to tons of answers from netizens – plus some career advice for anyone interested.

Many netizens have listed a few courses that can lead to high-demand jobs. Most of the answers are related to technology, like computer science, which can lead to jobs like software engineers and programmers. Others suggested finance and business-related courses like accounting and e-commerce, especially if you’re recruited into a large company in that field. Some suggested the healthcare field but noted that the studying period can be a struggle.

On the other hand, many also said the course wouldn’t matter because many companies would offer high pay but for more work. Some said that if the fresh graduate is willing to do more, they can receive a better salary regardless of the course. One netizen advised the Malaysian to refer to a salary report by the job search site JobStreet but also said that it’s better to find a course they enjoy but be the best talent in the field. He added that it’s better to love what you do than to work at a job you hate just for the money.

Unfortunately, these answers aren’t very detailed, so you might not get what you want at the end of your studies. However, a local recruiter answered a similar question earlier this year and maybe their answer can give a better perspective.
