Netizens Discovered Human Ashes Inside Second-Hand Teddy Bears?

There’s a superstitious belief that one must be careful when buying used items as “something” might still be attached to it, especially if it’s been abandoned for so long. Thankfully, these customers did not experience any paranormal activity but they were still left terrified when they discovered that the second-hand teddy bears they got were stuffed with possible human ashes.

Yesterday (Sunday, 10th September), a netizen who goes by ZackDaniel ToysVintage on Facebook posted on the Jumpa Apa di JJJ (Jalan Jalan Japan) Facebook group where he shared what he had found in a teddy bear he bought from a soft toy seller from Melaka.

“After cutting the bear open, we found out that the toy was stuffed with human ashes in several plastic bags. So please be careful when buying similar items such as these,” he captioned. He then clarified that he did not buy the item from a Jalan Jalan Japan (JJJ) thrift shop outlet but was simply sharing his discovery after he found out that another customer who goes by Fathia Omma Faisal shared her story of purchasing a similar bear at the popular aforementioned thrift shop.

As seen in one of the photos below, originally posted by Fathia, the teddy bear looked ordinary but the customer pointed out that it had a date and Japanese writing on its feet which roughly translates to, “Shiori, August 2009, 43.5cm. Thank you for being born. Let’s continue to live happily together.” This led many to believe that the bear was one of those personalised Teddy Bear cremation urns where family members can place their loved one’s ashes in the toy for keepsake.

Some were obviously disturbed by the viral post but thankfully, there were those who came forward to clarify that the “ashes” may not actually be what people thought it was. According to several netizens who claimed to be familiar with Japan and its traditions, the teddy bears in the post were not cremation urn bears but were simply congratulatory bears.

It was said that people in Japan can actually order customised teddy bears that weigh the same as the newborn baby to welcome the child into the family. One netizen even clarified that the two dates on ZackDaniel’s teddy bear were actually birth and marriage dates and the bear served as a gift for the newlyweds.

While there were no actual human ashes or supernatural elements to these teddy bears, it’s still wise to do a proper inspection of used items to avoid any unnecessary issues in the future.
