4 Fun Facts About Netflix’s “Fear Street Part 2: 1978”

Your Fear Street journey began in 1994 with a string of murders brought upon by the Witch’s Mark, bringing darkness and mayhem upon the land. A deal with the devil dictates that blood will continue to fall until body and hand unite.

Brace yourselves for a blood-soaked summer because this time, we’re turning back the clock to Shadyside, 1978. School’s out for summer and the activities at Camp Nightwing are about to begin. But when another Shadysider is possessed with the urge to kill, fun in the sun becomes a gruesome fight for survival.

Here are 4 things you need to know before the witch comes for you in “Fear Street Part 2: 1978”.

1. The set of Camp Nightwing was reported to be haunted!

Sean S. Cunningham’s “Friday the 13th” kicked off a whole movement of summer-camp-slasher films decades after it first premiered in 1980 – and “Fear Street Part 2: 1978” is one of them, with its entire premise set in Camp Nightwing.

In the eleventh hour, the Fear Street location team found a gem – a remote retreat centre that hadn’t been updated or remodelled since the 1960s. Fittingly, the location was also reported to be haunted with several crew members claiming that they’ve seen “things” lurking around during filming.

2. “Stranger Things” actress Sadie Sink joins the cast

Nobody can ignore the feisty young actress with lush red hair. That’s right – Sadie Sink shows off her acting chops in her first stunt-heavy role as Cindy Berman’s tenacious little sister, Ziggy. The actress admits that she isn’t the biggest horror fan as she gets easily spooked (we scaredy cats definitely feel her pain) but she does enjoy Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” and “Us”.

3. The killers of “Fear Street” were inspired by “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th”

The killers of Fear Street show no mercy and they’re out for blood. Director Leigh Janiak drew inspiration from the hall of fame of slasher films including “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th”.

We’ve met Ryan Torres with a skeleton mask and a knife in hand that was behind the Mall Massacre in the first film, which was a clear reference to Scream’s ghostface. We’ve also met Ruby Lane, a lovely lady that loves to sing while she slashes the town with her razor blade, perhaps taking a page out of the legendary Freddy Krueger’s handbook.

What will the Nightwing Killer be like?

4. Grab your bell-bottoms and groove to this ‘70s playlist

YouTube video

Throw it back to the era of bell-bottoms, ray bans and disco fever. Your parents might be more familiar with these groovy hits from the ‘70s but there are a few songs that have withstood the test of time like The Runaways’s “Cherry Bomb” and Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane”.

You can listen to Leigh Janiak’s personal 1970s playlist here or you can listen to the official “Fear Street Part 2: 1978” Playlist here.

Get those parental consent forms ready because we’re going to summer camp! “Fear Street Part 2: 1978” premiers 9th July on Netflix.
