Malaysians were shocked by the sudden news of YB Dr. Maszlee Malik’s resignation from his post as the Education Minister on 2nd January (Thursday), 20 months after his election.
The 45-year-old politician posted a photo of his lengthy statement on his social media accounts to formally address the issue. According to YB Maszlee, he has to step down from his position with a “heavy heart”.

The shocking announcement has in turn sparked a massive amount of reactions and speculations among local netizens. In this case, most of them were against his decision on stepping down from his role as the minister. On the other hand, some have been offering their full support to the Johor-born political figure, wishing him well for his future success.
The issue has also managed to catch popular celebrity Neelofa’s attention. For those in the dark, the hijab entrepreneur has recently stepped down from her post as the main MC for “MeleTOP” last Tuesday (31st December).

It didn’t end there, though. Some loyal supporters of YB Maszlee have decided to file for a petition to appeal for him to keep his title as the Education Minister. It has received up to 300,000 signs from the public at the time of writing.
