Whenever a public figure displays strange behaviour on social media, fans begin speculating what happened to prompt such actions. Recently, Malaysian badminton player Soh Wooi Yik (苏伟译) cleared out his entire Instagram account, sparking concerns from badminton fans.

According to news reports, the athlete suddenly deleted all posts from his personal Instagram account on 22nd December (Sunday). Soh Wooi Yik, who has over 460,000 followers on the platform, also made his account private, meaning it is no longer viewable to non-followers. In addition to locking his Instagram account, the Olympic bronze medalist also made his personal Twitter private on the same day.

However, the athlete’s official Facebook page remains open to the public, with all its posts still on the page. As of writing, Soh Wooi Yik’s Instagram and Twitter accounts remain private, and the 26-year-old has yet to address the matter. His men’s doubles partner, Aaron Chia, has also stayed silent on the issue. Nevertheless, Soh Wooi Yik’s actions have sparked concerns and prompted many fans to speculate about the potential reasons for the sudden move.

Many wondered if the athlete cleared his account because of the recent events involving the head coach of the national men’s doubles team, Tan Bin Shen (陳斌生). The former shuttler recently announced his departure from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Many attributed Tan Bin Shen to helping Aaron and Soh Wooi Yik defend their bronze medal in the Paris Olympics and helping Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin achieve their recent successes.

Fans continue to voice support for the athlete while maintaining optimism that he’s merely “recharging” himself ahead of the 2025 season. While we may not know what prompted Soh Wooi Yik’s recent actions, we hope he’s doing fine.
