The death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh (谢侑芯) continues to be a hot topic, especially now that it’s a murder case. After hours of no contact, Malaysian singer Namewee (黄明志) has finally surrendered himself to the police to aid in the investigation.
On 4th November 2025 (Tuesday), the police released a statement, saying that they’ve reclassified Iris’ death as a murder case. The influencer was found dead at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 22nd October 2025 (Wednesday). As the last person who was with Iris before her passing, Namewee was named a person of interest in the case. Meanwhile, the singer himself is facing drug charges after he tested positive for a cocktail of drugs.

Shortly after announcing Namewee as a person of interest in the case, the police issued an arrest warrant for the media personality. The authorities initially believed the 42-year-old went into hiding, as they couldn’t contact him. However, after a few hours, Namewee would surrender himself to the police. He reported himself to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters in the early hours of 5th November 2025 (Wednesday).
The controversial figure also shared a post on social media to speak on the case. In the post, Namewee revealed that he travelled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur for an appointment to report to the police. He also said he will fully cooperate with the police in their investigation and be accountable to the public and the family of the deceased. Namewee also assured the public that he isn’t running away from the case.

As of this morning, Namewee is still at the police station. However, Dang Wangi District Police Chief Suzilme Affendy Sulaiman confirmed that the singer will be escorted to the magistrate’s court later today for remand proceedings, in accordance with the police’s standard operating procedures. Online, netizens share mixed reactions to the news, but many hope that the truth of Iris’ passing will prevail.
As for Namewee’s drug charges, the court has set a mention for 18th December 2025 (Thursday). Whatever happens, we hope the public figure will give his full cooperation to the case.
