Media attention is still on Malaysian singer Namewee (黄明志) as the investigation into Iris Hsieh’s (谢侑芯) death continues. While it’s unclear whether the media personality had a role in the Taiwanese influencer’s passing, he still manages to spark conversation in other ways.
Earlier this week, reports of Iris’ passing prompted heated reactions, with many even more shocked to learn that Namewee is a person of interest. After police reclassified the influencer’s death as a murder case, all eyes were on the controversial singer as he surrendered himself to the police. However, on 5th November 2025 (Wednesday), the day he turned himself in, Namewee suddenly dropped a new song.

While in police remand, the media personality, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, released a new song onto various music streaming platforms. The song, titled “Very Shuai”, is reportedly an old demo track that he created in 2015. His motive for releasing the song on the day he turned himself in remains unknown. However, the move quickly sparked attention from netizens, who expressed amusement over the random release.
At the same time, Namewee is also garnering public attention for his love life. Amid investigations into Iris’ death, media outlets have reported about the singer’s 15-year-long relationship with his girlfriend, Sarah. According to reports, Sarah is Namewee’s makeup artist and stylist, and the two have a stable relationship. There are even rumours that the 42-year-old was planning to purchase a home in Taiwan to settle down with his partner.

Despite his outspoken personality, Namewee is rather lowkey about his relationship with Sarah, rarely mentioning her to the public. However, local news outlets spotted Sarah when Namewee surrendered himself to the police in the early hours of 5th November. The stylist remained by the singer’s side as he entered the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, highlighting their close relationship.
In related news, Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam confirmed that Namewee will be remanded until 10th November 2025 (Monday) to assist in the investigation of Iris’ death. At the same time, the authorities say that Iris’ toxicology and post-mortem reports could take up to three months to complete. Whatever happens, we hope the truth of the case will prevail.
