Last week, the police released Malaysian singer Namewee (黄明志) on bail following days in remand over the murder of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh (谢侑芯). After nearly two weeks of silence, the media personality finally spoke up about the case.
On 14th November 2025 (Friday), Namewee made his first public statement about the case through his social media channels. The singer wrote, “After nine days of detention, I’m finally out. This is the longest I’ve ever been detained in lokap (lock-up). Including the first and second days after the incident, I faced detention and investigation by six different police teams. Each day I was detained for more than eight hours, with the longest session lasting 15 hours.”

In his post, Namewee also detailed the teams involved in the investigation, which included the Criminal Investigation Department and the Major Crimes Unit. The singer, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, noted about the process, saying, “They recorded my statement using various methods and employed various technological tools to conduct a thorough investigation. Their work was meticulous and highly professional.”
At the same time, Namewee also expressed sorrow over Iris’ passing, saying that it was the first time he’d ever witnessed someone dying before his eyes. He said he was heartbroken, helpless and shocked. The 42-year-old also argued that he did everything he could to save the influencer, but to no avail. Namewee also urged the public to refrain from bullying Iris over her career as an OnlyFans model, adding that her work doesn’t make her a disreputable person.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Hospital morgue has released Iris’ body on 16th November 2025 (Sunday), 25 days after her untimely death. According to reports, a representative of Iris’ family was at the morgue to complete the release procedures. After a simple funeral service on the same day of the release, Iris’ body was cremated. A representative will bring her ashes back to Taiwan at a later date.
Investigations are still ongoing, though authorities mentioned that they found no evidence that Namewee was involved in Iris’ death. At the same time, the singer is also facing charges for drug use and possession.
