If there is any car in Malaysia which deserves the title of “notorious”, we would be, hands-down, voting for the Myvi. They’ve been featured in a lot of different news, such as blowing fire from their exhaust in an OKU spot, to getting damaged after attempting to cut the queue during a jam.
Well, if you’ve ever wondered who would win in a competition of speed between a car and an airplane (and who would be brave enough to challenge said airplane), look no further. This Myvi driver recently did and here are the results!
On 22nd August, a video of a Myvi racing an AirAsia plane was uploaded to Facebook and needless to say, it went viral very quickly. From the video, the Myvi driver was seen keeping pace with the AirAsia plane taking off from the runway, while they kept to the road outside the airport which ran parallel to the tarmac.
While the car did its best, the planes engines were quickly heard going full blast as it started accelerating for take off. Of course, the poor Myvi, despite going from 80 km/h to 100 km/h, started falling behind and couldn’t catch up. The passenger, who was recording the race, teasingly harassed the driver to go faster. The driver himself could be heard exclaiming: “(The pedal) is already pressed all the way!” and “(The plane is) so fast!”
The plane obviously won, still, the futile race left many entertained with several marveling at the Myvi driver’s guts. “Not bad, (came) second!” one cheerily commented. “I thought Myvi the king could fly as well, bro,” another stated, clearly tickled by the video.
Others advised the driver to fold the side mirrors. “(Then the) Myvi will be moving (at) 1000hp (horsepower),” one joked, with another adding: “Turn on (your) flight mode.” A netizen even claimed the Myvi could probably beat the plane in three rounds. “The air conditioner must have been turned off,” someone gravely assumed. “Otherwise (it) wouldn’t have lost.”
Some also compared the scene to the “Fast & Furious” franchise, as one netizen said: “Dom Toretto and his family (could) easily intercept that A380.” However, a few pointed out the danger of doing such ‘races’. “AirAsia direct flight to KL… Myvi direct flight to Heaven… Boarding through gate 7 1/2…” one drily quipped.
Well, while it certainly seems like an entertaining video, we sincerely hope the Myvi driver and others will rethink any future races. After all, we should prioritise safety on the road first!
