Beware of fake ads! We all know how annoying (and frustrating, of course) the amount of fake advertisements that have been circulating the Internet these days and many have fallen for their lies—especially those who are trying to make honest money by actually working and not scamming.

This time, we’ve stumbled upon the news of MyBallonFiesta’s fake advertisement that is providing plot rental for booths on the day of the festival. As of now, the police are attempting to find the culprits behind the advertisement.

Food Truck (Info Tapak Niaga) had uploaded a post on their Facebook account regarding the MyBalloonFiesta—Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta—stating that the festival will be held from 16th to 19th June. The post had also promoted space rental for booth vendors and traders for the festival priced at RM1,500 to RM2,500 for one day.

However, AKA Balloon Sdn Bhd, the true organisers of the festival, denied the claim and reported the advertisement to the authorities. So far, only AKA Balloon has filed a police report against the advertisement. The police urges victims that have come across the fake ad to make a report immediately as it could help in the ongoing investigation.

“So, we urge anyone who has become a victim (of the fake ads) to please come forward and make a police report, and we will assist them with investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” says Ashari Abu Samah, Wangsa Maju Police Chief. Those who are punished will be sentenced to more than a year in jail, no more than 10 years of whipping and a fine upon conviction.

On the bright side, AKA Balloon states that this year’s festival is in the works, which means we will get to enjoy the showcase of hot air balloons really soon.
