Passengers who use the MRT Putrajaya line for their daily commute faced some issues today due to recent service disruptions. As it turns out, there is a simple yet aggravating reason for these problems: theft.
Over the weekend, the MRT Putrajaya line has been facing service disruptions, causing trains to run slower than usual, even during peak hours. In a press statement issued on 26th October 2025 (Sunday), Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said the Putrajaya line train service will continue to be operated manually for today (27th October 2025, Monday) to facilitate ongoing repair works on the line’s signalling system.

At the same time, the company shared an explanation behind the signalling system issue. According to Rapid Rail, a technical investigation on 25th October 2025 (Saturday) revealed that a large number of fibre optic cables have been cut and stolen near Kuchai Station. The company added that it would take extensive repairs to ensure stable and safe operations before resuming full service.
Understandably, this revelation has sparked heated reactions from netizens and commuters, with many outraged that theft had caused the recent disruption. Some also called for apt punishment for the thieves, noting how many people were affected by the service disruption. As of writing, the authorities are still tracking those responsible for the cable theft, as no CCTV recordings were available at the scene of the crime.

While investigation and repair works continue, a free shuttle bus service is being provided between Kwasa Damansara Station and Putrajaya Sentral Station to assist passengers. The bus service frequency is every 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Commuters are advised to plan their journey, consider alternative routes and check the Rapid KL social media pages and PULSE app for the latest updates.
We hope the repair works will be completed soon and that the police will catch those responsible for the theft. What are your thoughts on this?
