“X-Men: Apocalypse” will set its story in the 80s, a decade after “X-Men: Days of Future Past“.  Thus, it didn’t come as a surprise to us that a slew of young actors will join the cast of the upcoming “X-Men” film to play the young mutants.

Producer Simon Kinberg previously revealed that the film will recast some of Marvel’s iconic superheroes including Cyclops, Storm, and Phoenix. It seems like the search for the young mutants is over because director Bryan Singer made an announcement that the new mutants are:

The announcement came on the heels of the recent casting rumour of “X-Men: Apocalypse”.

Nickelodeon star Alexandra Shipp and Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman were in contention to play the young Ororo Munroe (aka Storm), a role that was played by Halle Berry in the previous “X-Men” films. Having replaced Zendaya for the lead role of Lifetime’s Aaliyah biopic, “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B“, Shipp has been selected to play the young Storm.

Best known for her role as Sansa Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones“, Sophie Turner was once in the list of potential actresses to play a young Jean Grey (aka Phoenix) in “X-Men: Apocalypse”. Tye Sheridan , who is best known for his role in “Mud,” was also in the list of potential actors to play the young Scott Summers (aka Cyclops). TheWrap‘s reporter Jeff Sneider also tweeted that Sheridan “the current frontrunner for the part”.

Singer’s announcement now confirmed that they are indeed going to play Jean Grey and Cyclops respectively.

James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will return to reprise their respective “X-Men: Days of Future Past” roles. Oscar Isaac has joined the cast to play the titular villain as Apocalypse, who is widely believed to be the first mutant and the oldest mutant in the X-Men Universe.

Directed by Bryan Singer based on a screenplay written by Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty, and Dan Harris, “X-Men: Apocalypse” will begin filming in Montreal in April this year before its release on 27th May 2016.
