Ahoy, matey!

A certain captain will be making his way to Australia soon because the filming location for the fifth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise has been confirmed!

Pirates of the Caribbean 5

A spokesman for Australian Attorney-General and Minister for the Arts, George Brandis confirmed that The Walt Disney Studios is set to shoot the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film in Australia, primarily in Queensland. The production is expected to be based at the Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast before traveling to other locations in the state.

According to THR, Brandis said in a statement that the government has made a landmark deal with the studio by approving the location-based incentives that cost a whopping $18.9 million (AUS$21.6 million) to secure the shoot.

“This film will be the largest international feature film ever to shoot in Australia and will focus the world’s attention on Australia as a leading film destination,” Brandis said in a statement.

Senior VP of physical production at the Walt Disney Studios, Philip Steuer also said that the studio is pleased to be working with both the Australian Government and Queensland Government. He commented:

Queensland has an incredibly diverse landscape and Australia’s robust entertainment industry and many accomplished craftsmen will provide a fantastic home base for our production.

The fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film is scheduled for release on July 7, 2017 and it will begin shooting in February 2015. Jerry Bruckheimer will return as the producer of the film while Norwegian directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg will be directing the film.

It is not known if the cast will return to reprise their role but arrr! Who’s ready for Captain Jack Sparrow? Because we are!
