10 Of Our Favourite Modern-Day Disney Movies

Because, no one is ever too old for a Disney movie.

Walt Disney Productions started producing animated short films in 1923 and featured its first feature-length film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937. In 1995, The Walt Disney Studio started releasing animated films by Pixar Animation Studios which eventually became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2006.

Ever since the release of its first feature-length animated movie, The Walt Disney Studios has continued to bless us by releasing one gorgeous movie after another. We previously talked about our favourite Walt Disney classics from back in the day and in that post, we promised to come up with a list of our favourite modern day Disney movies so here it goes:

Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)

Set in 1914, the film tells the story of a young man who gets hold of a sacred book, which he trusts will guide him and a crew of adventurers to the lost city of Atlantis. Featuring the voices of Michael J. Fox, Cree Summer, and James Garner, the action-adventure film managed to take its viewers on an intense adventure under the sea.

Finding Nemo (2003)

“When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.” – Dory.

Released in 2003, “Finding Nemo” is a tale about Marlin who goes on a rescue mission to save his son, Nemo, who was captured by divers. Laced with smart humour, clever gags, and buoyed by a pleasant story of a pair of mismatched newfound buddies who go on an adventure together, we don’t think we can find anyone who didn’t enjoy this movie.

Monsters, Inc. (2001)

From the creators of “Toy Story”, “Monsters, Inc.” features a charming story with wildly inventive set pieces that is no short of funny and witty all at the same time. Also, visually magnificent, the movie will forever remain of Disney’s greats. Its sequel, “Monsters University” (2013), is equally as beautiful.

Wall-E (2007)

“Wall-E” is arguably one of the best movies we’ve ever watched and that says a lot considering the fact that we watch A LOT of movies. Featuring great music, stunning graphics, and hilarious notes, “Wall-E” delivers two spectacularly imaginative, breathtakingly lit worlds making the movie so endearing and enjoyable as a whole.

Ratatouille (2007)

“Anyone can cook, but only the fearless can be great.” – Chef Auguste Gusteau.

In reality, no restaurant can ever benefit from placing rats in a kitchen, but this isn’t reality now is it? Set in breathtaking Paris with its beautiful city lights, “Ratatouille” is a delicious delight, packed with pleasant characters and scrumptious animation.

Up (2009)

No doubt a little darker than most mainstream films for children, “Up” is also arguably the studio’s funniest effort ever. With its imaginative details and bewildering emotional range, the movie lives up to its title both in spirit and in form. Also, we challenge you not to tear up.

The Princess and The Frog (2009)

Going back to traditional animation, “The Princess and The Frog” is a beautifully drawn animated musical romantic fantasy-comedy film. Loosely based on E.D. Baker’s novel, “The Frog Princess”, the film is a gorgeous reminder of Walt Disney’s hand-drawn animation classic period, putting Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) on par with the other Disney princesses. Also, we absolute love the soundtrack of this movie.

The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

Released in 2000, “The Emperor’s New Groove” is the wackiest of all Disney features. From marvellously unpredictable humour to some groovy new tricks including its chase scenes, this movie will leave you breathless with laughter. “The Emperor’s New Groove” is a definite hit with both kids and adults.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Wreck-It Ralph is an original and exciting Disney film that’s rich with detail and filled with characters who face problems that humans can identify and relate to, making them instantly likeable. Apart from its stunning visuals, the story takes its audience on a game-life adventure that is jam packed with emotion, heart and energy,

The Toy Story Franchise

“To infinity and beyond!” – Buzz Lightyear.

First released in 1995, “Toy Story” was the first feature-length computer-animated film produced by the studios. Definitely one of best kids’ movies of all times, every 90s child can relate to all 3 movies in the franchise as it reflects their lives. “Toy Story 2” was released in 1999 followed by “Toy Story 3” in 2010 and we loved all three movies, we’re sure everyone else did too! 😉

We’re not going to deny that are other modern-day Walt Disney animated movies that we enjoy and it was tough picking our favourites but we did it anyway. If your favourite didn’t make our list, do share it with us in the comments section.
