From it-boy Tom Holland committing to yet another blockbuster project – this one connected to the great John Grisham, to a tantalising glimpse into Season two of “The Last Of Us,” which will finally hit our screens in April – here’s the latest movie news you need to know.
Holland To Lead In “The Partner” Movie Adaptation
With surefire blockbusters such as “Spider-Man 4”, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” and even his own wedding on the horizon, to say that Tom Holland is going to be a busy bee this year would be a massive understatement. On top of all this, he has been tapped to star in the film adaptation of the thriller novel “The Partner.”
For context to those unaware of the original source material: “The Partner” was written by Josh Grisham and follows Patrick Lanigan, a junior partner in a law firm who fakes his death, steals US$90 million, and makes his way to South America. Unfortunately, he is tracked down by ruthless mercenaries who wouldn’t hesitate to harm those he loves to get the money back. What follows is a hair-raising legal battle, where he is forced to confront criminals, former colleagues, the highest levels of government, and estranged relatives to get back his freedom.
Admittedly, a legal thriller might not seem as titillating as a superhero movie, but Grisham’s work has been touted as among the better ones in the genre, earning overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics back in 1997 when it was released. Furthermore, though we’ve already seen Holland’s acting chops, this might once again stretch them further. That’s because the script is being penned by another decorated novelist and scriptwriter, Graham Moore, who is known for his works for “The Imitation Game” and “The Outfit.” As for the director’s role, that is currently vacant – John Lee Hancock was supposed to helm the movie, but production stalled and he later left the project.
We’re all for Holland dipping into another complex character after his year-long absence following the release of 2023’s “The Crowded Room” – Lanigan is a morally complex character who treads a thin tightrope, which is different compared to his famous Spider-Man role. Furthermore, with Holland’s own production company (yes, he now has his own production company), Billy17, partnered up with Rideback, Grisham can rest easy knowing that his beloved novel is in good hands.
The Last Of Us: Season 2 Arrives In April
For almost two years now, viewers have been itching to see more of “The Last Of Us,” the hit game-based action drama series that set the world on fire when it aired. Since 2023, we’ve received scant news on what is going on behind the scenes, but for a few intelligent guesses and casting news.
In this previous article, we discussed how the series will take an even darker tone than season one. We’ve also theorised that Pedro Pascal’s Joel will die in the upcoming season, but we were pleasantly surprised to still see him kicking alongside Bella Ramsey’s Ellie in the teaser trailer. Of course, how long he remains alive remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the trailer fired us up – from loud alarms to horrifying clickers and even brand new faces that we will inevitably hate and/or root for, the glimpses into Season 2 look amazeballs.
Amongst the numerous jumpcuts and vast set designs showcased in the trailer, a voice can be heard speaking throughout the trailer. “It doesn’t matter if you have a code like me. There are just some things [that] everyone agrees are just wrong.” Many have theorised that the speaker is Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, one of the most controversial characters in the entire franchise.
This minute-long teaser perfectly sets up the intense rollercoaster of emotions that we might not be ready for – if you’ve played the game, of course. For those who really want to see the story unfold, you’ll just have to wait a little longer, as Season two is set to drop later in April, with a final date to be announced soon.
