Movie News: “Thanksgiving 2” Now In Production; Michael Shannon Gives Advice To Next General Zod

Be it a reboot or a sequel, there’s always something interesting about the next installment of a famous franchise or movie.

“Thanksgiving” is giving us a lot of hints of what to expect of the upcoming sequel, while a legendary actor is sharing some meaningful advice with his “next of kin.” What are these surprises? Find out in this article!

“Thanksgiving 2” Begins Filming; Familiar Faces Return

Last year, we reviewed the Thanksgiving-themed horror movie called… “Thanksgiving.” Though we didn’t necessarily rate the film highly, we did admit that it is a fun movie to watch if you’re in the mood for a campy slasher flick that harkens back to early slasher films. If, by any chance, you thoroughly enjoyed the film, then you’ll be pleased to know that a second one is now in the works.

After a long year of waiting, director Eli Roth has dropped details about the film’s anticipated sequel. For those unaware of the story, it follows a costumed killer going around Plymouth, Massachusetts, conducting a series of gruesome murders throughout the holiday. The film features Patrick Dempsey, Nell Verlaque, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Addison Rae, Gabriel Davenport, Milo Manheim, Karen Cliche, and Rick Hoffman.

Though it’s quite campy, it received glowing reviews from audiences and has a score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. This ultimately resulted in the sequel film receiving the green light, but most of the details have been shrouded in mystery – until now.

In an interview with “IndieWire,” Roth finally revealed some major updates about the upcoming sequel. In the interview, he said that, “We’re upping the ante but we are not going to do it with more money. That keeps it tight and lean and mean and forces us to make decisions. There’s a lot of setting up that we did in the first one that we don’t have to deal with now. It can just be all pay-off.”

Furthermore, in the same interview, he revealed that various actors from the original will reprise their roles. Additionally, Roth informed IndieWire that the script is done and all that’s left is shooting the film, which will take place in March.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a horror movie without the kills, something Roth was excited about sharing. “I’ve come up with stuff that is going to be a challenge . And I want it to be a challenge to pull off. Because if I’ve come up with the stuff that I think will make the best kills, then I’m going to do it like I’m never going to make another movie again,” he said. Though little is known about “Thanksgiving 2,” what we do know is that it will be a more direct sequel compared to other classic slasher flicks, focusing more on the aftermath of John Carver. Frankly speaking, a sequel was bound to happen, especially because of the open ending of the first film.

Michael Shannon Leaves A Message For The Next General Zod

Source: IMDb

Among Superman’s rogue gallery, none is more ferocious than Dru-Zod, a fallen Kryptonian general who is hellbent on restoring his race to its former glory. Admittedly, amongst Kal-El’s long list of antagonists, from the cunning Lex Luthor to the savage Doomsday, General Zod lands dead in the middle of both and was almost forgotten in recent memory if it wasn’t for Michael Shannon’s portrayal of the role in 2013’s “Man of Steel.”

Shannon embodied the brutal warmonger with such calculated gravitas it was almost impossible to forget him. Of course, much like Terence Stamp before him, Shannon needs to pass on the mantle for the next iteration of vicious general, but he does so with a special message.

In an interview with Screen Rant, the star revealed his thought process during the making of “Man of Steel.” This eventually led to the actor giving advice on how to approach the iconic villain. He went on record saying that “When I was doing Man of Steel, I didn’t really look at it as a big blockbuster; I just looked at the story in the situation.”

Despite this, he heavily emphasised that the next Zod should not imitate his performance. “What Terence Stamp did was very different from what I did. It’s kind of like Shakespeare. There can be a lot of different Hamlets, and there can be a lot of different Zods. It’s not my property. It’s literally not my property. So, make it your own. That’s always the best thing to do.”

Shannon went on to add that he didn’t think of Zod as “some supervillain or something,” but rather “as an individual who’s trying to do their job” and “trying to protect his people.” According to the veteran actor, this archetype is quite common among his roles. “When I look back, to a certain extent, I played a lot of characters that are just trying to protect their people.” However, another actor is welcome to explore and own this character in their own way, the same way Henry Cavil, Christopher Reeve, and others owned their version of Superman.

With James Gunn’s reboot of the DCEU just around the corner, it’s only a matter of time before we see another adaptation of Zod, who will go toe-to-toe with David Corenswet’s version of Superman. As to how that will go, only time will tell.
