The 2nd phase of movement control order (MCO) is currently in full effect and will carry on until 14th April.

Although the figures show that the Covid-19 curve is flattening in Malaysia, the Ministry of Health (MoH) will only re-evaluate the situation and decide on whether MCO needs to be extended on 10th April.

“Based on the report from the Health Ministry, the trend (the curve of Covid-19 pandemic in the country) is flattening. If the people continue to comply with the directives under the MCO, not only can we flatten the curve (of the infections) but the country could also witness a reduction in the number of people infected by the virus,” said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“On the 10th (of April), a few days before (the MCO) ends, we will look at our performance. Although I said yesterday that we have seen early signs of improvements, it is too early to make any conclusion,” Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah was quoted as saying. “The reason to flatten the curve is not to have zero infection of Covid-19, but to allow our hospitals to cope with the exponential spike in cases.”

In the article it says lesson to other countries: "Even when it seems like the coast is clear, keep your guard up". Very true and we should learn from that. If MCO is extended let it be, if not when is too late like in Italy or US, we will suffer even more than now.

Based on the current assessment, the World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that Malaysia will see a peak in hospitalised cases in mid-April. As of last night (2nd April), there are 3116 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 50 deaths and 767 recovered cases. 7779 people are still awaiting their results.
