Last night (Tuesday, 15th April), the Ministry of Heath (MoH) reported 5 new deaths, bringing the total death toll for Covid-19 in Malaysia to 82 cases so far.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the country’s fatality rate is currently at 1.6%. Out of the 4987 confirmed infections, 2,478 patients have recovered (that’s close to 50%) since the outbreak began.
“In Malaysia, more than 30% of the total Covid-19 deaths are participants of the Masjid Sri Petaling tabligh gathering. So, most of those who attended the gathering were men. Also, men are involved in more outdoor activities than women so they are more likely to contract the virus,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
As you may know, the elderly are at the highest risk. “The risk is higher for you if you are older. Also, more than 85% of the deaths are of patients with comorbidities, ” he added. MoH also tweeted out 5 facts about the Covid-19 deaths in Malaysia so far.
4. More than 85% were patients with pre-existing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

There 60 Covid-19 patients being treated at intensive care units (ICU) at the moment. From that number, 33 of them require the use of ventilators.
