In a momentous shift from tradition, the Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) has announced sweeping changes to its eligibility criteria for the upcoming Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 competition. At a press conference held at MYEG Tower, Eleen Yong, an esteemed fashion figure and newly appointed National Director, unveiled the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
Gone are the previous restrictions that confined participation to unmarried women under the age of 28. Instead, MUMO has abolished the upper age limit, welcoming women of all ages to showcase their talents and represent Malaysia on the global stage. Furthermore, the competition now embraces diversity in marital status, opening its doors to married, divorced, and mothers who aspire to compete.
Eleen Yong, known for her distinguished career in the fashion industry and her advocacy for empowerment, emphasised the transformative nature of these changes. “We are ushering in a new era for Miss Universe Malaysia. Our goal is to celebrate the richness and diversity of Malaysian women, highlighting their intelligence, beauty, and life experiences,” she declared.
The Miss Universe Malaysia competition has long served as a launchpad for women into careers in modelling, international brand collaborations, and advocacy for social causes. Under Eleen’s leadership, MUMO aims to elevate the pageant’s significance as a platform for personal growth and professional development. Contestants can expect to gain invaluable experience in public speaking, media relations, and cultural representation.
The call for entry is now open to all eligible non-Muslim Malaysian women aged 18 and above, encouraging them to seize this opportunity to make a meaningful impact. As the journey to crown Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 begins, MUMO invites women from diverse backgrounds to step forward and contribute to reshaping the landscape of beauty pageants in Malaysia.
