As it is an annual beauty pageant, Miss Hong Kong (香港小姐競選) returned in June 2023 to crown another beauty. However, this year’s Miss Hong Kong has been a string of surprises as some girls have dropped out from the competition for various reasons. Sadly, Jennifer Zhou (周婷) is now joining that list.
Just last week, Jennifer Zhou, alongside 16 others, were declared finalists of Miss Hong Kong 2023. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the 24-year-old beauty to drop her bombshell and today 18th July, TVB’s Corporate Communications Department confirmed her withdrawal.
“Miss Hong Kong 2023 Campaign conference received a (message) from the 11th candidate, Jennifer Zhou,” they announced. “As (she) has important family matters to deal with, she was not able to participate in the shooting in Vietnam and the series of training before the final elections.”
This has allegedly led Jennifer to decide against continuing her participation in the pageant. “(We) accept and respect her personal decision and encourage her to continue her efforts as (we) look forward to (her) re-election next time,” they added.
Some had already suspected Jennifer would withdraw, especially after her absence during Miss Hong Kong’s key events was noticed and felt. However, many were hoping she would persevere as she had made it to the finals after all. Still, her decision to withdraw is an understandable one.
Well, we sincerely hope Jennifer Zhou is doing well, despite whatever troubles she may be facing currently. On the bright side, despite her only joining the pageant for a brief amount of time, we do hope she managed to enjoy herself and make the most of it!
