It looks like Malaysia is preparing a homecoming for one of our biggest stars! According to reports, Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊) is scheduled to make an appearance in Kuala Lumpur next weekend.
In a recent interview, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said that Michelle will attend the lighting ceremony for the Visit Malaysia 2026 launch. The event will take place at Bukit Bintang, in front of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, on 3rd January 2026 (Saturday) and will be open to the public.

The ceremony is jointly organised by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Tourism Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur City Hall. According to Nga Kor Ming, Michelle will attend the ceremony with her husband, Jean Todt. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the launch, which will also be broadcast live on RTM.
Besides the lighting ceremony, the event programme will also include the inaugural Bukit Bintang Parade featuring 20 contingents. There will also be performances by singer Faizal Tahir and cultural performances by Istana Budaya. The public can also expect interactions with the viral “Abang Sado Bomba” and a fireworks display.

The initiative is part of the government’s preparation for the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. Nga Kor Ming noted that Tourism Malaysia is targeting 45 million tourist arrivals in the coming year. As such, the government has planned many events throughout the year to achieve the goal, including concerts and celebrity appearances.
With a global star like Michelle Yeoh helping launch the campaign, there’s no doubt that Visit Malaysia 2026 will be a success. Will you be attending the ceremony at Bukit Bintang?
