Misunderstandings can be pretty common in life. Most of the time, it’s because we miscommunicate. While most miscommunications don’t end too badly, this instance almost cost Hong Kong actress Michele Reis (李嘉欣) her life!
Earlier this year, Michele was admitted to a hospital for heart problems. It took forty-eight hours to stabilise her condition and to the relief of many, the actress recovered well. However, the former Miss Hong Kong winner recently shared that she had came close to losing her life that night. And it was because of a misunderstanding between her husband and her doctor!
Michele was doing an interview with Hong Kong news site “East Week (东周刊)” when she shared the full story. Apparently, Michele had started feeling uncomfortable during the night. She also realised that her heartbeat felt abnormally fast. So, she decided to measure it. Michele was shocked to discover that her heartbeat was as high as 160 beats per minute.
Although suffering discomfort, Michele was reluctant to visit the hospital. At the time, Covid was still at its peak. As such, she was reluctant to go. However, she and her husband, Julian Hui contacted a doctor to make a house visit instead. After examining her, the doctor immediately arranged a ward at a hospital for Michele before leaving first.
Before they left, Julian realised Michele was feeling sleepy. So, he contacted the doctor and asked if Michele could take a quick nap. The doctor replied with a text saying, “No” and “Hurry“. Unfortunately, Julian thought they meant, “no hurry“. Luckily, the doctor called Julian afterwards. They told him to hurry and send Michele to the hospital. Apparently, if she had fallen asleep, she might not have woken up.
The actress herself was unaware of her critical situation. Instead, she insisted she was fine. “You don’t have to worry,” she told her family. However, after being admitted to the hospital, a doctor informed them of the near-danger. “When my sister saw me, my eyes (had) already (turned) white,” Michele added.
Thankfully, Michele’s condition stabilised after forty-eight hours in intensive care. She was later given further treatment to prevent further abnormalities. “This experience taught me a lesson,” the actress said. “If you feel any discomfort, don’t give up.”
Well, we’re certainly thankful that the actress survived that ordeal! We also sincerely hope Michele is taking care of herself after that scare.
