Chinese New Year usually sees the return of many, especially artists who have gone overseas like Michael Wong/ Guang Liang (王光良). And while he had a grand time here, it’s apparently been so long that he’s forgotten some things about Malaysia, more specifically, its roads!
Michael Wong has been busy thanks to his upcoming tour concert “Lonely Planet 2.0 (今晚我不孤独2.0)”. Still, as is customary for CNY, the much loved singer took the time to return to his hometown, Ipoh, to see his family. But, Michael also had another goal this time and it was to re-familiarise himself with Malaysian roads.

While he still considers Malaysia his home, Michael Wong admitted that he’s forgotten how to drive in Malaysia. “I’m not familiar with the roads at all, so I have to ask friends to drive me whenever I go (out). My colleagues laugh at me for (having) no sense of direction,” he shared. As such, this Chinese New Year, he’d planned to challenge himself.
He apparently proposed a trip to Penang with his family, and offered to be the one to drive them there. “I wanted to re-take the driver’s seat and take everyone on a trip as a challenge to myself,” he explained. “(As I) drove on the highway, many memories emerged and I lamented at how time flies.”
In addition to proving himself on the roads, Michael also took the chance on the trip to enjoy some durian, taste the charcoal fried kway teow which was recommended by his family and delight in a seafood meal arranged by a friend in Penang. Sadly, it was a short two-days one-night trip, yet, he’d enjoyed himself immensely.

After his short relaxing vacation with his family, Michael Wong returned to Taipei and is continuing to prepare for his concert tour. His biggest concern now is his health. “After the new year, there will be consecutive concerts, and I need to be in the best condition to not let down my fans who have been waiting for a long time,” he shared.
We too hope Michael will look after his health as he’s set to appear in Malaysia on 4th May for his show! And hopefully, during his next return to Malaysia, he’ll be able to drive around again to refresh his directional sense.
