“Maze Runner” fans, it seems that you need to wait a little longer for the release of “The Death Cure” 🙁

On 19th March, the film’s lead actor Dylan O’Brien was seriously injured on the set of the film. He reportedly fell from the roof of a moving vehicle that he was strapped to and was dragged under the vehicle, leaving him with multiple broken bones.

The production of the film had to be shut down while he recovers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 24-year-old actor’s injuries were worse than originally thought and the film’s release date has been postponed to 12th January 2018. 20th Century Fox has also confirmed the news in a statement released on Monday (30th May).

In their statement, they said, “The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible”.

“His injuries are very serious and he needs more time to recover,” added Jennifer Allen, actor’s publicist.

The 3rd film for the popular novel-turned-movie franchise was originally scheduled for release on 17th February 2017 and it is based on author James Dashner’s best-selling novel, “Maze Runner”.

Wes Ball is directing “Maze Runner: The Death Cure”, in which Dylan’s character searches for a cure for a deadly disease called the “Flare.”

There’s currently no announced date for when production will start up again but “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” is now slated for release on 12th January 2018. The delay means that there will now be a nearly 2-and-a-half-year gap between the 2nd and 3rd films in the action-adventure film franchise.

Well, at least the movie is not cancelled altogether, right? We hope you get well soon, Dylan!
