Rumours began circulating online that pop superstar Miley Cyrus had become engaged to her musician boyfriend, Maxx Morando, after she was spotted wearing a ring at the “Avatar: Fire and Ashes” red carpet premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The couple has done a commendable job of keeping their relationship private, making only occasional high-profile appearances together.
In an interview with Good Morning America yesterday (Wednesday, 3rd December), the Grammy winner finally confirmed that she and Maxx are definitely engaged! Congratulations are in order but before that, let’s get to know more about her husband-to-be:
1. He’s in a band
One thing Maxx Morando and Miley Cyrus have in common is that they are both in the music industry. Maxx is the drummer for the LA-based rock band Liily, which was formed in 2016. Prior to this, he was the drummer for the punk-rock band The Regrettes. In 2018, Liily released their debut single, Toro, on Flush Records. Since then, the band has toured across the United States and Europe and performed at festivals such as Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo.
2. He collaborated with Miley on her visual album “Something Beautiful”
As a musician, it is no surprise that he would want to collaborate with his partner. Maxx Morando was credited as one of the writers and producers on Miley’s first visual album, “Something Beautiful”, including the title track. “I worked with my dad forever. That’s how my ex-husband and I met. I’ve always worked with the people I love, and Maxx just inspires me so much,” Miley told Bazaar.
3. The couple met in 2021
Miley and Maxx have been together for 4 years now. The couple met in 2021 through a blind date. According to an interview with British Vogue, the singer said that it was love at first sight for her, but for her now fiancé, he already had an idea of who he was meeting for the date before the day itself. “Well, it was blind for me and not really for him. I thought, ‘The worst that can happen is I leave,'” she said.
4. He’s 6 years younger than Miley Cyrus
This may come as a surprise to some, but Maxx Morando is actually 27 years old — six years younger than his fiancée, who recently celebrated her 33rd birthday. During an episode of her family podcast, “Sorry We’re Stoned”, Miley addressed the age gap, admitting that there are certain advantages to being the older partner.
“I’m just hoping that, y’know, as long as he follows in my footsteps, everything is going to be great,” she reflected, drawing on her life and experiences at 27. It is safe to assume that she is very protective of her soon-to-be husband and will continue to look out for him throughout his career and their life together.

During her recent interview on “Good Morning America”, Miley shared that she’s not the kind of person who gets easily surprised, admitting that she likes to have everything in order and within her control, but Maxx managed to keep his plans to propose to the Grammy winner a secret until their recent trip to Japan. “I am not easy to surprise, because I love to control every situation. And I had completely surrendered. And I’m telling you I was so, so surprised,” she told the host before showing off her engagement ring.
