Malaysian netizens have always been rather strict with Muslim celebrities and their clothing, so if it’s too tight or short, it’s an instant no-no. Singer Masya Masyitah is one of those celebrities who have received scrutiny for her outfits – and maybe she’s finally had enough.
The “Hapus” singer is known to many as a hijab-wearing singer – but her recent Instagram post of her without her hijab shocked many. The photos featured the singer posing in front of a pink Audi while dressed in pink and showing off her dyed pink hair. While unconfirmed, these photos could be part of a marketing campaign to promote the “Barbie” movie, as many other celebrities have also shared their pink outfits.
Despite her pretty pictures, many of the singer’s fans were shocked by her new look, particularly the lack of hijab. Previously, Masya was slammed for wearing short skirts and crop tops while still donning a head cover. Despite being mostly covered up by wearing leggings and arm covers, netizens were still unhappy with her contradicting fashion choices, even leaving comments telling her to “just remove her headwear”.
Maybe after receiving such comments, Masya took them to heart and decided to go without her hijab. As for the public’s reaction, many were surprised and hoped the public figure will start wearing her hijab again. Some commenters even said they’ll unfollow the singer due to her image change. Interestingly, despite the declaration, the singer’s Instagram follower count increased after her Barbie-inspired photos.
