A new year means a new beginning for MASwings. The commuter airline recently announced that it will officially transition its operations to AirBorneo on 1st January 2026, marking the end of an era.
On 22nd December 2025 (Monday), the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) released a statement on the transition of MASwing’s operation to AirBorneo. This move follows the successful completion of the ownership transfer process under the Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) signed between MAG and the Sarawak Government on 12th February 2025.

The statement writes, “Effective 1st January 2026, AirBorneo will assume full legal and operational responsibility for all services previously operated by MASwings. This includes flight operations, customer service and management of all passenger-related matters.” MAG added that existing MASwings branding may continue to be visible during the initial transition phase.
The aviation organisation also extended its appreciation to passengers, partners and stakeholders, and asked for cooperation and understanding throughout MASwing’s transition period. MAG also expressed commitment to supporting a smooth and seamless transition and the continued strengthening of regional air connectivity for Sarawak and the wider community.
MAG established MASwings on 1st October 2007 as East Malaysia’s first dedicated commuter airline. The airline’s creation helped address the air travel needs of Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan. Over its operational history, MASwings has operated over 430,000 flights and carried more than 19 million passengers across its network.
Previously, AirBorneo launched tickets for its inaugural flight on 14th January 2026 (Wednesday). For inquiries relating to bookings, flights, or customer service matters from 1st January 2026 onwards, passengers can contact AirBorneo’s call centre at 1-300-22-1388.
