Sensational Malaysian band Kugiran Masdo, also known as MASDO, has made a name for themselves with their unique 60s revival pop music. The trio, consisting of Ali Sariah (Aliff Fahmi Bahtiar), Asmawi (Muhammad Aizad Asymawi Mohd Ismail), and Putu Ceri (Ahmad Azanol Kusyairi Zainudin), is recognised not only for their catchy tunes but also for their retro style, featuring old-fashioned outfits and haircuts that complement their nostalgic sound.
In recent years, MASDO has achieved significant success, becoming one of Malaysia’s most distinct and well-known performers. Now, they’ve reached another major milestone in their career, earning a nomination in the “Best Asia Act” category at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) 2024, set to take place on this 11th November in Manchester, England.
This marks MASDO as the second Malaysian artist to represent the country in the “Best Asia Act” category, following Yuna’s nomination back in 2012. The “Best Asia Act” award is the regional category awarded to the best Asian performer as chosen by voters and fans. MASDO will compete against four other nominees, which are BINI, ILLIT (아일릿), Mahalini, and Sakurazaka46 (櫻坂46).
The lead vocalist of the band, Ali, shared that they were informed of their nomination confirmation last week. He expressed that, as always, they are not setting high expectations. “The fact that we were nominated is already fulfilling. If we ever win, it would be a huge bonus for us (MASDO),” said the singer. He also mentioned that the band has not yet decided whether they will attend the event in person.

Malaysians are encouraged to make history by supporting MASDO and voting daily to help them secure the prestigious MTV EMA trophy! Voting is available on the official MTV EMA website and began earlier this Tuesday (8th October), continuing until 7th November (Thursday). Fans can tune in on 10th November 2024 (Sunday) to find out who will take home the award.
Wishing all the best to MASDO and the rest of the nominees!
