Disney and Marvel Studios have officially slotted the highly anticipated Ghost Rider movie, starring Ryan Gosling for a worldwide theatrical premiere on July 28, 2028.
The announcement follows the film’s initial reveal at San Diego Comic-Con, where Gosling appeared onstage alongside Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to announce his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Comic-Con attendees were given a broad 2028 window, Disney has now claimed the late-July summer launch pad, a prime calendar weekend previously occupied by blockbuster hits like Deadpool & Wolverine and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The project reunites Gosling with director Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), following their collaboration on Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Starfighter. Screenwriter Jonathan Tropper has been tapped to pen the script.
According to Feige, the film materialized after Gosling brought a specific, comic-accurate vision directly to the studio.
“It was Gosling who had the vision,” Feige previously shared. “It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage.”

The project serves as one of three Marvel titles slated for 2028, joining an untitled X-Men feature on May 5, 2028, and Black Panther 3 on December 15, 2028. An additional untitled Marvel project has also been penciled in for November 9, 2029.
We are still yet to find out if Gosling will be taking the helm of Johnny Blaze from Nicholas Cage or will he be playing Danny Ketch, another Ghost Rider who was introduced in the comics around the 90s, who also would’ve been the main Ghost Rider in the comics around the time Gosling was growing up.
Disney updated a number of theatrical dates for its live-action and animated films in addition to Marvel at D23. On March 10, 2028, Pixar’s Ghost Market will be released; on March 31, 2028, Tangled will be remade in live-action; on November 22, 2028, the animated feature Clay will be released; and on November 21, 2029, Coco 2 will be released. Additionally, the release date for Searchlight Pictures’ horror film Monitor has been pushed up to April 16, 2027.
Ghost Rider will officially hit theatres on July 28, 2028.
